First Day Qualifiers

420 Junior Europeans - First Day Qualifiers
RIVA DEL GARDA, ITALY-(13-8-2005) At noon all crews on water; at half past two in the afternoon all crews back in port. After the first race the Race Committee, due to an upcoming possible thunderstorm, had to call all boats ashore. The French Thomas Rahier and the British Edward Powys finished both first in their respective fleets; the Italian Stefano Cherin (Società Velica Barcola e Grignano di Trieste) finished third.

The Race Committee, chaired by Adolfo “Dodi” Villani, after the first qualifying race had no choice: all the 108 crews taking part to the 420 Junior European Championship had to sail back to the port of the Fraglia della Vela of Riva.

Today has been sailed the first of the six qualifying series races scheduled by the Notice of Race, for the two fleets (the yellow group raced with the blue, and the green with the red; these colours will last till the end of the qualifying series; each fleet will race once against each other).

After this first race the French Thomas Rahier and of the British Edward Powys (first in their fleets), while the Italian Stefano Cherin, helmsman with Matteo Velicogna, is second in his fleet, following the British Powys.

Great result (7th) for Edoardo Scotti Mancinelli (Circolo della Vela Roma), while actually the Portuguese Tomas Oliveira Silva Gomes (2005 420 World Champion) finished sixth in his race (eleventh in general temporary rankings, to remember, valid only for these qualifying series).

Tomorrow first warning signal at 8.00 am !!
